19 of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback Medvedev secured his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has had a difficult period, achieving just one win at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in specific - led to him exiting of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with long-term mentor his previous coach.

Now collaborating with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's first trophy since the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface from that period of that year.

Victory also means he has achieved 21 championships at twenty-one different events.

"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my both daughters together, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," commented tennis professional the champion.

"This championship is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, featuring in Halle previously this season.

The player's counter-punching strategy and regular emotional displays on court had caused some to question if his ability to perform at the highest level was finished.

But the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and compete aggressively, reinforced by an improved service.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, winning four of the concluding five games to go ahead.

The pair exchanged break points in the following set before Moutet, striving for his initial ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to push for a decider.

Moutet saved four early-game opportunities in a close final set before the champion won the break to that score to serve for the match.

Appropriately, the winner clinched the title with a point at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to control a return after a lengthy match.
